Bonaire (Dutch pronunciation: /boːˈnɛːr(ə)/; Papiamento: Boneiru, /buˈneiru/) is an island in the Caribbean Sea and part of the Leeward Antilles group (or ABC islands, comprising Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao) within the Lesser Antilles. It is located 41 km east of Curaçao and 88 km north-northeast of the Venezuelan coast. The island has only two settlements: the main town, Kralendijk, and Rincon. The island is relatively flat and low-lying.

It has been a special municipality of the Netherlands since October 10, 2010 (part of the BES islands), following the dissolution of the autonomous country of the Netherlands Antilles, of which it was previously a part. As of 2024, it has a population of 25,133. There is also a small island nearby called Klein Bonaire ("Little Bonaire" in Dutch).

The island features a reserve that is home to numerous pink flamingos.

The salt pans are part of a vast salt production area located in the southeast of Bonaire. This area consists of shallow basins where seawater is channeled and concentrated. Under the influence of the sun and wind, the water gradually evaporates, leaving behind salt that is subsequently harvested.
